Managing fatigue is half the battle in program design. Placing too many high volume sessions too close to each other will lead to a lot of fatigue carryover which will harm performance. Depending on the amount of volume also, this fatigue could interfere with technique as well. To manage this, we can insert low volume, low RPE training days in between our heavier/higher volume days. This will benefit us threefold: adding additional volume where we would normally take a rest day, we are using light enough loads to help dissipate fatigue and still getting in quality technique practice. The gray area on the graph represents fatigue (for simplicity we're assuming a 1:1 relation with volume). Notice how we've inserted our heaviest and highest volume days where we're the least fatigued and in the freshest state possible.
